Fr. Gaston Roberge has been a pioneer in initiating film studies and media studies as academic disciplines in Kolkata. He established Chitrabani in 1971 and remained its Director till April 1996. Today several film scholars, filmmakers and other media professionals owe their first insights into their profession to Chitrabani. Fr. Roberge has authored about 25 books on cinema, media and Christianity. Some of his analyses of media trends have proved prophetic.
